| Strike a blow against shark fin soup! |
|
Demand for shark fin soup in Asia is the number one reason why shark populations are plummeting throughout the world. Now you can take advantage of an unprecedented opportunity to make a direct impact in the fight to save sharks. Update! Billboards have already been installed in Shanghai and Beijing. See the blog entry and gallery of the billboards, here. The television commercial featuring Yao Ming is airing in China. The web site and grassroots campaigning launched in December 2009. We no longer need additional funds for billboards, but do need your continued support to extend this campaign into more media, cities, and over time. We will be providing an update soon on additional media that we have already acquired and needs for future acquisitions. Last year, WildAid had 200 billboards in Beijing for 3 months. In a survey, 19% of Beijingers responding remembered having seen the boards and 82% of those people said they would stop or reduce their consumption of shark fin soup. This campaign works and your contribution to it will have an impact! All of these facets of this campaign work together--the television public service announcement, the billboards, and the web site. At the web site, visitors learn about the environmental and health dangers of shark fin soup, are invited to take a pledge promising to halt their own consumption, and access campaign materials directed at restaurants, businesses, and those planning weddings. Take action now. Your donation will make sure the citizens of Beijing and Shanghai see this important message every day. We offer two ways to donate online. The first button is our primary way to donate using a credit card. If you prefer to pay using PayPal, click on this button: Donating by check: If you prefer to donate by check, you may do so by sending a check payable to Shark Savers, with 'China Campaign' in the memo. Non-US donors: please send your check in United States currency only so that we can avoid paying the bank's currency conversion fee. They may be mailed to: Shark Savers Thank you. Comments (18)

Ban killing of sharks It is indeed sad to see the way sharks are being killed. These apex predators need to be saved from rapid decimation. People should stop buying and eating shark fin soup and similar products. The lack of demand can only stem this murderous race to exterminate sharks.Better sense should prevail and such exotic tastes be restricted. |

I'll split a sign with someone! Here's $50 for half and that allows someone else to put in the other half who like me can't swing the whole amount! Way to go Shark Savers! |

Have a Billboard on me. Well, I took the plunge and donated a hundred dollars for a billboard. Colleen and I have been giving $10 a month since March of 2008, and figured that it was worth an extra $100 to place a billboard. I only hope that they translate well! |

Excellent idea to stop shark finning!!! What an amazing way to help stop finning! Asians are no doubt the primary reason sharks continue to be finned (for shark fin soup). This is an excellent way to raise awareness, and help to decrease the consumption of shark fin soup! I bought one in memory of my nephew, Sammy, who just loved sharks and loved to look at all the pictures I took (I'm a scuba diver with my primary interest in sharks)! I spread the word and another of my friends bought one too! |

Didn't know that the problem was so huge Saw a film on swedish TV and got really upset. Cutting of fins (smiling at the camera)and dumping the mutilated sharks alive back in to the water. Make people aware and choose not to buy anything with shark in it seems like the best way to go. |

Great Idea All the presentations I give in the US and Germany will probably not have the effect of one bill board in China. That's why I made the donation. |

Brilliant work striking at the heart of the matter I want to congratulate Shark Savers for an innovative and no doubt successful campaign. Whilst we should all be boycotting shark fin soup sold in our own local area, and informing business owners of our reasons, the main market for this product is no doubt still in China. By kindly and politely informing the citizens of the reasons for boycott, from personal to environmental health reasons, it produces a far more approachable medium for the Chinese people. I will be sure to be contacting Yao Ming and congratulating him on the courage and dignity he has displayed in taking part in this campaign. You are doing wonderful work Shark Savers, thank you for all that you do! |

Thank you so much!
