| Update on Palau: danger of restarting shark fishing persists |
| Wednesday, 26 August 2009 06:16 | ||||
We thought we had good news to report. The Palau Senate Committee on Resources, Commerce, Trade, and Development attempted to stop the Senate Bill 8-44 which sought to open shark fishing to commercial fisheries in Palau. You can download the attached letter from the Committee here: SB No. 8-44.pdf 239.41 Kb 27/08/2009
Unfortunately, the supporters of the bill fought back and enough votes changed to support the bill, reestabilishing a stalemate between forces. The vote on the bill has now been deferred to October of 2009 for the next session of the Senate. It is important that we keep up the fight and oppose this bill. If you have not already done so, please sign the petition. It is having an effect. Read Dermot Keane's blog entry with more details.
