ABC Australian Broadcasting Corporation The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is calling on the Queensland Government to scrap plans to issue shark fishing licences off the Queensland coast, warning the move could cause the extinction of some species. The Government is reviewing the number of shark fishing licences in the Queensland fishery as part of a review of the Inshore Fin Fish Fishery. But WWF oceans program leader, Dr Gilly Llewellyn, says there is no research showing the practice is sustainable, and it could wipe out several species of sharks. |
