I am horrified by these practices. It makes me ashamed to be a human!4048 Victor Jakupi, Mississauga, ON, Canada 4047 Eric MacDonald, Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada 4046 Not publicly disclosed, Richmond Hill, ON, Canada 4045 Ben Drysdale, Canberra, ACT, Australia I am in full support of this campaign.4044 Kelley Dalberg, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA 4043 Maureen Palidwor, Anola, Manitoba, Canada It is so heartbreaking to see how these sharks are so savagely de-finned and left to die! People need to be made aware ASAP where these fins and soups are so "popular" that it's such an inhumane act! It needs to be banned somehow. How can people do such inhumane acts!! Maybe someone should go cut off there arms and legs and throw them in the ocean! There should be more education to these countries/areas/people that are consuming/buying these fins etc..! Tougher laws, fines etc... It has to stop! It is not necessary for sharks to become extinct!4042 Not publicly disclosed, BTFD, ON, Canada 4041 Suzanne Wales, Newmarket, ON, Canada I would urge you to protect the shark and in so doing protect the earth, OUR HOME.4040 Not publicly disclosed, Kitchener, ON, Canada 4039 Not publicly disclosed, Guelph, ON, Canada 4038 Not publicly disclosed, Cheserex, Vaud, Switzerland 4037 Eileen Hennessy, Melrose, MA, USA 4036 Not publicly disclosed, Tottenham, ON, Canada 4035 Not publicly disclosed, Burlington, ON, Canada 4034 Not publicly disclosed, Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada 4033 Not publicly disclosed, Barrie, ON, Canada 4032 Katyn Halliday, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Anything involving killing animals for money is simply wrong, definitely when the animals are partially the reason we're alive.4031 Not publicly disclosed, Nottingham, UK, UK 4030 Robert Reid, Niagara Falls, ON, Canada It would seem an idiotic idea to allow the continuation of shark hunting based on the fact that we're severely affecting the worlds main supply of oxygen, with unknown results!4029 Nilton Costa, Toronto, ON, Canada 4028 Toby Powers, Carrollton, IL, USA 4027 Annabel Gurner, Sydney, NSW, Australia I have seen the movie and was shocked that so little is known about the world collapse of shark populations. It is clearly an important animal in ocean ecosystems. I agree that the establishment of a shark fishery and industry is highly inappropriate. In addition to that the Great Barrier Reef should be off limits to any kind of fishing. It's a World Heritage listed environmental sanctuary which we should guard and protect at any cost.4026 Melissa McCulloch, Toronto, ON, Canada It is absolutely appalling to see these creatures killed so cruelly. Something needs to be done to stop it as soon as we can - which, in all honesty, should have been a long time ago.4025 Todd Ritchie, London, ON, Canada Please do the right thing.4024 Claudia Grati, Caves Beach, NSW, Australia 4023 Pedro Augusto, Porto, Portugal 4022 Alan Peters, Wallaceburg, ON, Canada 4021 Michael Pawlikowski, Fort Frances, ON, Canada This situation is totally unacceptable!!! The planet is in a crisis condition. SAVE THE SHARKS!!!4020 Not publicly disclosed, Burlington, ON, Canada 4019 Genevive Dillon, Hull, Quebec, Canada Would you like it if someone caught you, cut off your arms and legs and then let you bleed to death? I wouldn't. Stop shark finning!!4018 Not publicly disclosed, Maple, ON, Canada Please put a stop to this!4017 Brandon lloyd, Ottawa, ON, Canada Common people STOP finning sharks if all the sharks die we're gonna die as well from lack of oxygen, so how about you guys stop? Thanks!!!!4016 Jordan Vasiloff, Toronto, ON, Canada 4015 David Sarraf, Hudson, Quebec, Canada 4014 Lorraine Eisenporth, Kitchener, ON, Canada Sharks must be protected for future generations. We have already lost too many species that our children will never have the chance to see. We cannot afford to lose these majestic creatures as well.4013 Jordan Munro, Victroia Harbour, ON, Canada 4012 Kiuno Kuenzle, LaHave, Nova Scotia, Canada 4011 Not publicly disclosed, Lahave, Nova Scotia, Canada 4010 John Tonkinson, Hatboro, PA, USA Ban all shark fishing & finning!4009 Not publicly disclosed, San Anselmo, CA, USA 4008 Ryan Hocking, Par, Cornwall, UK 4007 Kendra Garvin, Hollywood, FL, USA 4006 Not publicly disclosed, Perth, WA, Australia It seems like the Qld Gov't is trying to give Australia as bad a name as Japan has in regards to it's whaling operation. What is their agenda and what gives them the right to allow shark fin fishing to take place? They do not own Nature. This world would function very well if it wasn't for greed. It is a natural balance of all things that make up the world and it looks like the Qld Gov't is out to upset this balance. Are lessons never learned?4005 Erin Rizok, Windsor, ON, Canada 4004 Calvin Humby, Auckland, New Zealand Just watch "Sharkwater."4003 Basset Sandrine, Nouma, Nouvelle Caldonie 4002 Jenny Bernard, Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 4001 Not publicly disclosed, Koror, Palau 4000 Rachel Martinez, San Diego, CA, USA 3999 Jourdain Tony, Dunjkerque, Nord, France Stop this for our children !!!3998 Nicole Ryan, Dania, FL, USA 3997 Natalia Baechtold, Tumbi Umbi, NSW, Australia PLEASE DON'T DO IT.3996 Sarah Walls, Derby, Derbyshire, UK 3995 Jess Gibbs, Perth, Western Australia, Australia 3994 Not publicly disclosed, Port-Louis, France 3993 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3992 Not publicly disclosed, Plouhinec, Bretagne, France 3991 Candace Woods, Vancouver, BC, Canada 3990 Julien Beltzung, Coolum Beach, Queensland, Australia 3989 Richard Shapiro, Honolulu, HI, USA Please create a long term solution to saving our sharks!3988 Eryn Flynn, Honolulu, HI, USA 3987 Not publicly disclosed, Elkridge, MD, USA 3986 Not publicly disclosed, Columbia, MD, USA 3985 Cliff Terry, Koror, PW, Palau 3984 Myriam Deer, Montreal, Quebec, Canada C'est la premiere fois de ma vie, en coutant un reportage, qui m'atteint autant... Ce reportage m'a fais pleurer... Bravo au producteur et a leur courage!3983 Cameron Cook, Santa Clarita, CA, USA I am greatly concerned about the state of the world's sharks. It's such a horrible crisis that is greatly ignored, but if it continues in this direction the results will be truly catastrophic. I believe we can stop that though before it's too late. Please, let's save the sharks (and the world).3982 Not publicly disclosed, Reading, Berkshire, UK I think we are all currently watching the earth and all its creatures dying. When we have destroyed everything we will eat people. Please prove me wrong.3981 Not publicly disclosed, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 3980 Susan Sokay, Oshawa, ON, Canada There should be more education in the countries that create the markets eg. China & Taiwan. Destroy the demand...save the sharks! (It's never that easy...but it's a start.)3979 Izabela Uscinowicz, Ottawa, ON, Canada 3978 Victoria Jolly, London, UK 3977 Not publicly disclosed, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Let the world go its natural way.3976 Indiglo Period, Guwahati, Assam, India Save the Earth! 3975 Sandra Nikolic, Koh Tao, Suratthani, Thailand Stop embarrassing Australians all over the world with your ignorant, destructive, outdated policies! Do the math! Live sharks generate more revenue & save more money. Der!3974 Poppy Nevin, Surrey, UK Make it work!3973 Jessica Evans, Victoria, BC, Canada 3972 Sandra Stanley, Petaluma, CA, USA 3971 Mike Halk, Ontario, Canada I think the best quote in Sharkwater was:"We're just a bunch of primates out of control."3970 Erin Whitehead, Toronto, Ontario, Canada 3969 Marja Indarjit, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada 3968 Carrie Edney, Stanmore, NSW, Australia Sometimes what seems such a small issue has an hidden impact that will upset all sorts of balances. What gives us humans the right to decide what can live and die!3961 Sandra Pernet, Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland Beautiful film, BRAVO!3960 Samuel Hernandez Garcia, Elda, Alicante, Spain 3959 Ignacio Soler Carbonell, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain I been several times to the Great Barrier Reef, therefore I think it is completely demented that the Queensland government is doing that. Open your eyes!!3958 Camino Alaez, Barcelona, Spain 3957 Neyla Carballo, Pola de Laviana, Asturias, Spain Killing sharks is a crime. We are the stupidest animal.3956 Not publicly disclosed, Canfield, Ontario, Canada 3955 Jennifer Campbell, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada 3954 Dayna Griffin, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 3953 Sirena Van Schaik, St. Marys, Ontario, Canada 3952 Suzanne Hunt, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada 3951 Not publicly disclosed, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK 3950 Abigail Kaye, Bridgend, South Glamorgan, Wales 3949 Bobbie-Jo Talarico, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada Ban shark finning and stop the killing of over 200000 million sharks per year. Sharks are the real Victims, help keep our oceans balanced!3948 Sara Watson, Windsor, Ontario, Canada 3947 Janine Redko, Maple, Ontario, Canada I am horrified and heartbroken after seeing Sharkwater. The killing of sharks must stop now!3946 Rebecca Maggio, Deep River, Ontario, Canada I was devastated and overwhelmed with emotion after watching Sharkwater....I was already aware that sharks were a misunderstood animal.....It's not one of humanity's finer moments. We need to take action to stop finning and mass slaughtering of sharks.3945 Not publicly disclosed, Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada The loss of sharks in oceanic ecosystems would be a devastating blow from which we would not be able to recover. The time for passivity is over. The time to act is now, before it is too late.3944 Not publicly disclosed, Canberra, ACT, Australia 3943 Not publicly disclosed, Kingston, Ontario, Canada 3942 Tim Griffin, Somerville, MA, USA Please, for the sake of these beautiful creatures and our planet and OURSELVES!3941 Alison Haythornthwaite, Munich, Germany 3940 Not publicly disclosed, Blackwood, NJ, USA Please save the sharks!3939 Janice Davis, Toronto, Ontario, Canada We need to wake up out of our complacency and stop the senseless slaughter of sharks in the Great Barrier Reef. I have donated money and am prepared to donate some time to encourage Chinese restaurants in my community to remove shark fin soup from their menus.3938 Not publicly disclosed, Camperdown/Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 3937 Anne Ellis, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Save the sharks!3936 Jean-Nicolas Levasseur, McMasterville, Quebec, Canada Please stop fishing sharks!!!3935 Virginia Kostiuk, Castleton, Ontario, Canada Please...This doesn't make sense. Being Canadian, and wishing I could go to Australia someday to see it's natural beauty, I seriously wonder if it will exist in 20 years, with practices like this one being supported by it's government. Australia's diverse, unique wildlife, including the beautiful and irreplaceable Great Barrier Reef, are world-renowned. Does Australia want to replace that reputation with the world witnessing barbaric practices such as finning? Being blamed for the destruction or serious and perhaps irreversible damage to the Great Barrier Reef due to the depletion and/or extinction of the apex predators?. I don't want to go to Australia to see shopping malls, city streets and bleached, dead reef beds. I don't want to see your unique and beautiful wildlife hanging on by a thread. Ecotourism is Australia's biggest draw. Don't lose it. Don't assume that supporting the "managed" harvesting of sharks or any other species will work. It didn't work in Canadian waters...our fish stocks collapsed, even with "managed" quotas. Please, in the face of all the scientific data on declining shark populations. In the face of our complete lack of understanding of these beautiful and fragile ecosystems, don't allow this to happen. Err on the side of caution. Stand-up...show integrity and wisdom. You'll be respected and applauded for that. You won't be respected and applauded for allowing the destruction and depletion of one of the world's greatest wonders.3934 Not publicly disclosed, WY Ontario, Canada 3933 Andrew Foster, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please stop this practice from being legal. Stop the shark fishing!!!!!3932 Sabrina Vitulano, Montreal, Quebec, Canada SAVE THE SHARKS!!!3931 Jeff Dunlop, Orleans, Ontario, Canada Take some pride in one of your greatest resources, and protect it for Australians and all of the world to enjoy for generations to come.3930 Yvonne M, Toronto, Ontario, Canada This movie was very disturbing. I was very sad to see what was happening to these poor sharks. Killing these poor sharks just for their fins. Seeing them get their fins cut off then thrown into the sea alive to die was disgusting. These people that do this should have their heads cut off and be thrown back into the sea.3929 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada People can be so arrogant and this needs to stop...! SAVE THE SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!3928 Jason Foucault, Ajax, Ontario, Canada Knowledge is power, a cliche, yes, but this does not make it less true. We have shown ourselves capable of compassion and understanding once we have been educated on the true nature of a species and its role in the world we share. So it has been displayed with efforts to save the dolphins, whales and seals to name some of the more popular causes of our oceans. Sharks are important to maintain the delicate balance of the oceans ecosystems and deserve the same protection as all animals that have been threatened by man's irresponsibility.3927 Robin Annen, Aylmer, Ontario, Canada 3926 Eric Mageau, Lancaster, Ontario, Canada Save the sharks, save yourselves.3925 Not publicly disclosed, Stouffville, Ontario, Canada 3924 Not publicly disclosed, Dryden, Ontario, Canada I just finished watching the movie about 10 seconds ago. I'm so sad that our world has come to this. Life is more important than money. DO NOT HURT LIVING THINGS!3923 Robin Yates, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Save the Sharks PLEASE!!!3922 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada 3921 Jill Holden Swan, Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada Save the sharks!3920 Tracy Parras, Toronto, Ontario, Canada 3919 David Anthony, Petersham, NSW, Australia 3918 Not publicly disclosed, Alice Springs, NT, Australia 3917 Julio De Laffitte, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia Knowing about the problem is just the first step.3916 Richard Wood, Rapid Creek, NT, Australia Australia should not be known as the country that allowed commercial interests to destroy the Great Barrier Reef.3915 Julia Wilkes, Toronto, Ontario, Canada PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....The GBR is such a magical place...The only one of it's kind on the planet. Please don't destroy it.3914 Julia Unrein, Newport, OR, USA Please ban shark fishing in the Great Barrier Reef. These places that define your country are not only beautiful places that encourage travelers and dreamers from afar, but ecological areas of vast diversity and proliferation. The ocean is not a curtain from which we can magically produce infinite resources. We cannot continue to brutalize and waste top predatory animals without cutting off resources of millions of other life forms. Reef diversity and biomass depends upon the balance between predator, prey, vegetation, and scavangers to thrive. By removing one important piece (sharks) there will be catastrophic consequences in the future, not only to fishieries but to the barrier itself. The barrier reduces impact caused by hurricanes, tsunamis, and tropical storms that threaten terrestrial life, us, and other animals.3913 Not publicly disclosed, Denver, CO, USA 3912 Luga Gregory, Luzarches, France Do we kill the ecosystem of our sea ??? Of course if it's for money! So why don't kill the greatest predator at heart? Maybe we can make more money with human meat!3911 Alex Debono, Rockdale, NSW, Australia 3910 Rachel Green, Rockdale, NSW, Australia As an Australian citizen I am appalled at the Australian government's plans to legalise fishing of endangered species, when clearly the practice should be banned internationally and effectively policed. Mr Garrett, it Reeks of Politics, and you should be ashamed.3909 Nancy Dalfovo, Koumac, New Caledonia, Canada 3908 Not publicly disclosed, Buderim, Queensland, Australia 3907 Not publicly disclosed, Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia 3906 Jody Kliffer, Vancouver, BC, Canada It's time Australia took a stance against such cruel and destructive practices. Don't wait for the rest of the world.3905 Martin Seehuusen, Alexandra Headland, QLD, Australia What on earth would fishing sharks provide? I'd like my future children to be amazed by these creatures too!3904 Wesley Legrand, Adelaide, SA, Australia 3903 Andrew Maciver, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3902 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia Respect LIFE!3901 Sue Crowe, Willoughby, NSW, Australia If we allow this fishery Australia and her government, local & federal, will lose all credibility in every and any aspect of conservation. Our Government, frankly, would be a joke and loathed by its voting citizens. Please do what you know is the right thing.3900 Lee Michaels, South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 3899 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3898 Michael Baron, Hobart, Tas, Australia Having had direct experience on fishing vessels as an Australian fisheries observer, pandering to the few, relatively wealthy, for the short term gain is insane. I have seen the waste involved!3897 Marian Ondrejicek, Dolne Zelenice, Okres HC, Slovakia Save sharks!3896 Not publicly disclosed, Seattle, WA, USA 3895 Tom Coughlin, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3894 Pierre Stephanie, Six Fours les Plages, Region PACA, France 3893 Paul Schumacher, Seaford, NY, USA 3892 Nicholas Hansen, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3891 Not publicly disclosed, Stegersbach, Austria It is very barbarous to kill animals and take only a small part of it and throw the rest away! And all this for the money!3890 Collin Robertson, Edmonton, AB, Canada 3889 Melissa Goodwin, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada 3888 Andrew Wooster, Garden City, MI, USA Australia is a beautiful country, and Steve Irwin would have wanted the reef protected. Lets honor him and save our oceans.3887 Adrian Plante, Mchenry, Il, USA Our actions will affect us all when the top food chain predator is gone.3886 Brett Olson, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA How could you support shark finning when 90% of the shark population has already been decimated???3885 Courtney Graham, Harrods Creek, KY, USA 3884 Sarah Crawford, Edinburgh, Lothian, UK You are a civilised country - behave like one, ban all shark fishing now and do all you can to save these amazing animals. You have the power and money to do so. SAVE THE SHARKS!3883 Lartigue Gaelle, Vaivre-et-Montoille, France Saving sharks is urgent! Stop killing them... They are very important for the planet.3882 Ludivine Boursier, Paris, France 3881 Boris Defosse, Lambersart, France 3880 Laura Walker, New York, NY, USA BAN ALL SHARK POACHING!3879 Nicole Coates, Edgeworth, NSW, Australia 3878 Colin Letizia, Morley, WA, Australia 3877 Emilie Yee, Vancouver, BC, Canada Sharkwater the documentary has opened my eyes about our shark population - I will not be eating shark fin soup again. Thank you3876 Not publicly disclosed, Vancouver, BC, Canada Please help save this incredible species!!3875 Jesus A Robles, Irving, TX, USA 3874 Gordon Sands, West Vancouver, BC, Canada 3873 Vanessa Strobl, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada This planet is home to many creatures; the fragile ecosystem of the ocean is what sustains life on earth. Once our ecosystem becomes unbalanced due to thoughtless and senseless killings of one of the earth's oldest creatures, the consequences will be felt the world over. I strongly urge Australia to ban all shark fishing in the Great Barrier Reef. We only have one world, we must take care of it.3872 Colin Hoult, London, UK 3871 John Hopkins, Geneva, Switzerland 3870 Not publicly disclosed, San Francisco, CA, USA Please! Ban shark fishing, we need sharks in our ecosystems to make the world go round!3869 Helen Praem, Broby, Denmark, Denmark On land we have the police and military to guard and protect. But who protects and guards the oceans? Only those who care.3868 Not publicly disclosed, Strasbourg, France 3867 Not publicly disclosed, Lynn, MA, USA 3866 Twyla Douaire, Harwood, Ontario, Canada Ban ALL shark fishing immediately throughout the entire the Great Barrier Reef area--establish sustainable catch limits elsewhere that are based on sound research--vigorously enforce those policies.3865 Gustaf von Segebaden, Stockholm, Sweden 3864 Kailey Wheeler, Hamden, CT, USA This needs to stop. I am planning on dedicating my life to help stop this cruelty. This is what I plan to do. I am 15 years old and I love sharks more than anything else. I'm obsessed with them and Rob Stewart is my hero. Many of us need to be like him and help save the sharks.3863 Lorna Hirst, Solihull, West Midlands, UK 3862 Not publicly disclosed, Center Moriches, NY, USA 3861 Chessari Brice, Nouma, Canada 3860 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia I swim with sharks daily...3859 Simon Meyer, Hastings, Victoria, Australia 3858 Therese Liljedahl von Segebaden, Sterskr, Sweden I boycott restaurants that present shark on the menu as a small step in the process. Currently residing in Tokyo and I am shocked how many restaurants that include shark, and whale also for that matter, on the menu.3857 Deborah Kemp, Sydney, NSW, Australia If Ecuador and Costa Rica can ban shark fishing then so can we here in Oz and look at South Africa now famous for it's shark diving activities. It can be done!3856 Marcia McDuffie, El Sobrante, CA, USA Please do these things for the sharks: Ban ALL shark fishing immediately throughout the entire the Great Barrier Reef area. Establish sustainable catch limits elsewhere that are based on sound research. Vigorously enforce those policies.3855 Not publicly disclosed, Glasgow, County Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK More need to be demanded? I think not!3854 Not publicly disclosed, Philadelphia, PA, USA 3853 Laurie Czyzewski, Wharton, NJ, USA 3852 Irene Pozzolo, Vancouver, BC, Canada 3851 Marc Valade, Lachute, Quebec, Canada Killing animal is not part of humans program of living. We all pay for this distorted behavior of our relative human being. We never were intended to be predator of any animal. Not only the Bible support that point of view, but science does. The laws of nature, the laws of our Creator, are undeniably scripted in our veins, emotions and souls!3850 Pascale Luquet, Grenoble, France If I can help you , contact me......Good luck....3849 Not publicly disclosed, Beechmont, Queensland, Australia 3848 Nicola Banks, Tillicoultry, Ckackmannanshire, UK 3847 Sabrina Moucadeau, Barbentane, BDR, France 3846 Diana Nymand, Bonn, NRW, Germany Sharks are severely endangered, with some populations down by up to 95% since the 1970's! A "license to kill" is therefore absolutely irresponsible, especially in the unique jewel of nature as which the Great Barrier Reef is worldwide known! Please stop this before it's too late to save many species of magnificent sharks.3845 John Langley, New York, NY, USA Stop the Bloodshed!3844 Rebecca Swainson, Guelph, Ontario, Canada 3843 Not publicly disclosed, Dobbs Ferry, NY, USA 3842 Nick Van Tromp, Hove, East Sussex, UK 3841 Becky Gordon, New York, NY, USA 3840 Not publicly disclosed, Bronx, NY, USA 3839 Not publicly disclosed, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Peter Garret - If you can stop a coal terminal at Shoalwaterbay that potentially has huge economic benefits, surely you can stop help stop shark fishing.3838 Diane Videky, Perth, WA, Australia This is the lucky country - let's keep it that way for all living creatures great and small - wake up Australia and take ACTION!3837 Anthea Ibell, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand 3836 Agnes Izard, Roissy, France 3835 Izard Florence, Toulouse, France 3834 Tracy Davidson, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 3833 Alexander Doerksen, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sharks shouldn't be hunted just for fins. It's sick. Just the fact this perfect predator is prey is a sign that our world is a screwed up place.3832 Amanda Wardell, San Francisco, CA, USA 3831 Harrison Wilcox, Hollywood, CA, USA 3830 Gabriel Anguiano, London, UK 3829 Amy Harlib, New York, NY, USA Protecting sharks and biodiversity in general is the only way to save the planet from eco-catastrophe!3828 Nick Landy, Harrison, NJ, USA Killing of these animals will result in the end of all things. They are too important to our ecology to be killed.3827 Marc Ayres, Rochester, Kent, UK Considering what you have on the Great Barrier Reef, to allow shark fishing there disgusts me. These creatures are vital to the life of the reef, as well as being beautiful they should be left in peace.3826 Frederic Nauleau, Toulouse, France 3825 Jacinthe Gouled, Nice, France 3824 Rose Griffin, Cortland, NY, USA 3823 Elaine Hendrix, West Hollywood, CA, USA 3822 Aw Si Xiang, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia 3821 Lisa Koehl, Brooklyn, CT, USA PLEASE!!! Sharkwater and the research I've done on my own after viewing the documentary have shown me that it's not just smoke and mirrors and that there is a real danger if sharks continue to decline in numbers and nothing is done about it, finning in particular.3805 Karen Kirk, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sharks play a key ecological role in our oceans. Without them the dynamic intricate web of life in the waters will be forever changed for the worse. Please act now to save them and the delicate balance of interactions between species of the sea.3804 Harriet Jones, Sydney, NSW, Australia This is a serious situation and will only lead to the regretful loss of our threatened marine life, in their own environment, if commercial business and governments are not policed.3803 Philip Stockton, Jan Juc, Victoria, Australia What a hypocritical action for the Australian government to introduce shark finning. Greed, greed, greed, greed,at the expense of the environment, yet again.3802 Joyce Frohn, Oshkosh, WI, USA 3801 James Ashman, London, UK 3800 Amber Miao, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada 3799 Arnold Wolthers, Southport, Queensland, Australia 3798 Not publicly disclosed, Fresno, CA, USA 3797 Erica Dawkins, Winter Park, FL, USA STOP SHARK FISHING! Protect the sharks so they can survive another 400 million years, without us.3793 Mason Rauch, Fountain Hills, AZ, USA 3792 Juliette Masiero, Sete, Herault, France 3791 Paul Graham, Bournemouth, Dorset, UK How are you going to educate people on which sharks have to be captured and the sharks which don't? I am sure they will know once the Australian govt tell them, maybe they have some sort of shark telepathy, pathetic, leave the sharks alone and make all of the Barrier a national park.3790 Maria Rodgers, Blairsville, PA, USA 3789 Tia Pinela, Oceanside, CA, USA With so many types of sharks critically endangered by ruthless fishing practices, civilized people need to be responsible and put an end to exploitation. Please protect what few sharks are left in your waters. Thank you.3788 Paul Pearson, Wallasey, Merseyside, UK 3787 Marc Anderson, Tualatin, OR, USA The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world's most precious natural wonders. I never knew in the last 20 years 90% of the population of sharks has diminished I am disgusted that the Gov't can not realize that if We as Human beings continue to ignore all of these concerns and scientific evidence about shark finning that these sharks will be gone forever. Whats going to happen when the Sharks are all gone that the fish population with increase rapidly where in turn they will consume all the plankton available and leave the world with no Oxygen. This needs to stop. Why cant people in power understand we need to Value the life of all creatures just as much as a human being. Maybe we can learn from the Sharks and understand how they have been able to live for over 400 thousand years. And for all those uncaring and cruel people who fish the waters need a serious wake up call. It's pathetic how people do things under desperation just to make money. How much longer do we have to take and take and take from this beautiful world before we realize we are killing our planet. C'mon people we can do better than this. The Australian Government, through various bodies, supports marine research, including projects which highlight the importance of food chains and retaining balances in ecosystems. Why then are you being so hypocritical and allowing the fishing of an already threatened key predator? Do you not believe the science? The GBR should be protected, along with all other ecosystems.3576 Lorraine Homeak, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada I am very disgusted with shark finning.3575 Not publicly disclosed, Calgary, Alberta, Canada I have read a National Geographic article that described Australia as being one of the first to conserve sections of ocean to give the ecosystem a chance to recover from overfishing and other human activity. I cannot believe that our world can stand back and accept such barbaric brutality on such wonderful marine life! This needs to end, and the world need to open their eyes and look at what humanity is doing to these animals around us. We need to live in harmony with nature. This is completely unethical and immoral. The consequences of such evil will inevitably have a dramatic affect on the future of our unique planet and our future generations! I'm French and I saw Rob Stewart's great movie about sharks protection and I'd like to thank people like Rob Stewart and Paul Watson who are involved in such a struggle, I'd like to thank you for acting because people like me can't have such a big impact as you can have. Then I hope men will soon realize how dangerous they are for themselves! How can the most intelligent animal on earth (the human kind) be so stupid, and provoke its own destruction and that of the whole world! I'm so disappointed! It is really hard to cope with this idea that we are about to kill ourselves and that we are aware of it!! So please everybody do the best you can to make people aware that we NEED sharks! Love 3502 Amanda Looi, Point Cook, Victoria, Australia I am sick of 'economics' dictating both our now excessive lifestyles in the developed world and values as opposed to living a happy, balanced, healthy life in touch with our natural environment. We should be smarter than this. Our chase for economic growth and greed will be to the ruin of all. Good luck to future generations.3501 Devon MacAlpine, LIvely, Ontario, Canada After viewing a film on the brutal ongoing slaughter of sharks merely for their fins, I am disgusted at the lack of enforcement or legislature against this. We are risking destroying ecosystems, including our own, over something ridiculous.....a bowl of soup!!!! Tomatoes are good for you as well....open a damn can of soup! The sharks don't stand a chance against a couple billion of foolish Asians. And these people are supposed to be full of culture/honour/tradition?? Making or purchasing this soup should illegal internationally. Maybe the punishment should be the removal of the ears....or worse. 3500 Not publicly disclosed, Rockingham, WA, Australia What has happened to you Mr Garret? 3499 Ibrahim El-Zein, Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany When I first came to Australia in the early 80's we where leading the world in the environmental arena. 25 years later we have dropped back to environmental short sightedness belonging to the 50's. Don't expect any further support from me, when you preach for understanding on your climate change policies whilst blatantly supporting industries that are part of the main problem. 3497 Not publicly disclosed, Thurso, Caithness, Scotland Please ban all shark fishing. They are critical to all ecosystems and without them the impact will be great. 3495 Delta Conchas, Ajax, Ontario, Canada Me and my family are outraged by your lack of support to the marine ecosystem. Your are contributing to the extinction of Sharks and should be ashamed. 3494 Juan Pomares, Long Beach, CA, USA There is no reason to add to the devastation already happening. Killing the top predator will lead to the over consumption of the coral reef due to the infestation of roaming reef eaters. 3493 Emily Jenkins, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia I am embarrassed for you. You are quite stupid to think this will not effect people. I am outraged that you would let this happen. You represent Australia when you make bad decisions like this. We look just as bad as all of the people with power who don't understand how this effects the environment. But what's worse is I'm sure you do understand what your doing is wrong and quite clearly you don't care. So just go ahead and ignore what people are saying. Pretend to yourself your doing what's right. Your just like all the other horrible people in the world with power. You should know better. You make me sick. 3492 Katalin Kll, Salzburg, Austria Sharks play a very important part in our ecosystem. Without them, our ecosystem will not be able to function properly. Shark fishing must be stopped if we do not we do not want our ecosystem to suffer any consequences. 3490 Baha Amine, Fes, Morocco After watching "Sharkwater" I have become more aware of the horrific and inhumane treatment of sharks. I had no idea the situation was so severe. It's disgusting. I will do what I can to spread the word. 3478 Martin Strommer, Alexandria, NSW, Australia Before you go into the next Chinese restaurant please ask them if they serve shark fin soup. If they do, politely let them know that you are opposed to the practice of shark finning and dine somewhere else. Making a difference can be easy. 3477 Christophe Perin, Le Havre, France Je voudrais faire mon possible contre la pêche aux requins. 3467 Bianca Serfontein, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sharks may not have the same appeal as whales, but they should be just as protected. Just as whales have taken years to start to recover from massive hunting in the past, shark populations will take years to recover from overfishing. 3461 Not publicly disclosed, Perth, WA, Australia It would be an absolute travesty if the Queensland Government allows shark fishing in the Great Barrier Reef. The world's fish and shark stocks have been decimated over the years and we should be putting in place measures to protect our fish stocks, sharks and oceans, not encouraging activities that are going to further negatively impact our marine ecosystems. Do you want to wait until there's nothing left and then feel bad because you didn't do anything? Or would you rather be at the forefront of preventing further environmental degradation and species extinction? 3459 Joan Wells, Noranda, WA, Australia C'mon do you really have to kill everything? When is animal and marine life ever going to be as important as a humans! Future generations are deserving of knowing what our earth and all its creatures are like. I quote " It won't be until the last plant and animals have gone that we realise that we can't eat money." Pls stop this ludicrous idea; the people you are meant to represent do not want this to go ahead. Do not forget what your job is to represent the voice of the people! Thank-you. 3457 Not publicly disclosed, Hughesdale, Victoria, Australia Please ban all shark fishing. 3456 Not publicly disclosed, Mount Lawley, WA, Australia I can't believe that in this day and age Australia will be seen as supporting one of the most destructive, cruel and highly unsustainable fisheries in the world.. I am ashamed to be called an Australian if this is what we stand for. 3450 Shannon Stimpson, Hampton Bays, NY, USA Thanks for all your efforts saving these beautiful creatures! 3446 Not publicly disclosed, Hong Kong Terrible decision on your part!! Please wise up and respect our environment.... 3442 Not publicly disclosed, Mandurah, WA, Australia The documentary Sharkwater shocked me. I was afraid of shark before I seen this tragedy documentary. I want a help and I hope this will help. I`ll do the best to help this cause. 3438 David Tiemstra, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada We as humans know what is right and what is wrong. And we as humans need to step-up and do the right thing. Not just for us, but for our planet. 3437 Not publicly disclosed, Wembley, WA, Australia Come on guys, do our country proud and leave a legacy for my kids - the right one! 3436 Not publicly disclosed, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada I find this to be a terrible display of the Australian government's lack of commitment to global environmental integrity. This is a terribly irresponsible act that soils the image of Australia. 3435 Damian Garone, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Why can't we find a balance... why must we always take too much!!! It is possible to live in balance with the world... It has done so for much longer than we have existed... even the simplest creature can do it... ARE WE TOO STUPID... ARE WE NOT ABLE TO DO WHAT DUMB ANIMALS SEEM TO DO WITH OUT EFFORT!!!! 3434 David Coles, Greenfields, WA, Australia Silence is all we will see and hear when they are gone. 3432 Not publicly disclosed, Perth, WA, Australia
3430 Gina Hodges, Matthews, NC, USA This is simply not on! 3427 Matthew Wilson, Mandurah, WA, Australia On a personal note, this is the most absurd and backwards thinking I have seen by a government department. How can we legitimately say we care for the environment & future of the world when we are contemplating this? I will be telling everyone I know about this and ensure that we all boycott Queensland as a holiday destination due to this money hungry concept. Wake up Queensland and make the rest of Australia proud by rejecting this stupid proposal. 3426 Not publicly disclosed, Rivervale, WA, Australia We're supposed to be leading the world in fisheries management - how can we possibly justify the slaughter of these beautiful animals?! What a bunch of hypocrites! 3424 Jason Halliday, Perth, WA, Australia I cannot believe that in this day and age we are actually considering this proposal. Have we not learnt from our past mistakes ? 3422 Patricia Dalton, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada I saw Sharkwater, and was moved. Stop the brutal, senseless killing of sharks! 3421 Karthik Ramanujam, Bangalore, Karnataka, India Ban ALL shark fishing immediately throughout the entire the Great Barrier Reef area--establish sustainable catch limits elsewhere that are based on sound research--vigorously enforce those policies. 3420 Not publicly disclosed, Kirkland, Quebec, Canada Ban shark fishing, finning, fin importation, and long-line fishing. Enforce as necessary. 3419 Claire Tolkien, York, England, UK I have just watched the film Sharkwater, what a truly inspiring yet upsetting insight into what money makes us humans do. We are willing to endanger and slaughter innocent animals that have lived on this earth for millions of years all to make a "buck".3416 Jenna Rachelle, Perth, WA, Australia Stop the destruction!!!!!!!!!3415 Ben Eliot, Perth, WA, Australia Please do not let money get in the way of our Australian shark populations.3414 Nick Sanders, Sydney, NSW, Australia I am shocked by not only the scale of global shark fishing which I didn't realise was conducted on such a large and organised scale but more so that shark fishing is supported by the Australian government. For a country which hosts the world's largest reef and as a country which preaches to others on environmental issues such as climate change and whaling, it's shameful that shark fishing should not only be allowed to occur but is legal and endorsed by the Australian Government. Australia is a developed Western nation, we should be leading by example and ban all shark fishing, how else can we expect other poorer nations to do the same?3413 Danielle Lowy, Los Angeles, CA, USA Shark fishing and finning is not a legacy that Australia should leave behind.3412 Not publicly disclosed, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 3411 Philippe Blanchette Nagy, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Save the sharks! I saw a lot of sharks and I hope, when I come again, there will be sharks. Otherwise I will never go to Australia again. I can spread my money in other countries also.3401 Rondet Caroline, Estagel, France 3400 Jamie Trahair, Adelaide, SA, Australia 3399 Not publicly disclosed, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada 3398 Andreane Daigle, Cowansville, Quebec, Canada Shark fishing is a horror, just like the people who tolerate it..3397 Thomas Cogan, Stonington, CT, USA 3396 Sally Cogan, Stonington, CT, USA 3395 Rebecca Barlow, Milton, Ontario, Canada 3394 Lisa Puharich, Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada 3393 Stephane Kolb, Thann, Haut-Rhin, France Regardez Sharkwater vaut tout les commentaires...3392 Not publicly disclosed, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada 3391 Clint Franklin, Perth, WA, Australia STOP THIS BARBARIC ATROCITY.3390 Alex Mahoney, Chalong, Phuket, Thailand 3389 Krystyna Spanell, Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada 3388 Nick Davenport, Stoke Newington, London, UK 3387 Not publicly disclosed, Ste-Brigide d'Iberville, Quebec, Canada 3386 Not publicly disclosed, Arlington, VA, USA 3385 Not publicly disclosed, London, England, UK Ban ALL shark fishing throughout Australian waters and support a worldwide ban on shark fishing.3384 Heather Davis, Gin Gin, Queensland, Australia No commercial fishing should be allowed in the Great Barrier Reef.3383 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3382 Fabrice Leclerc, Nancy, France I had the opportunity to visit the aquarium in Cape Town and I got more concerned and sensitive to shark saving since then. Many short movies on sharks are available on the VUZE network for exchanging videos. I think these are also ways to educate people about sharks. Thanks for what you''re doing.3381 Michelle Slavik, Dalmeny, NSW, Australia What will we kill when the sharks are gone? Lets stop before it's too late.3380 George Dauwalder, Steffisburg, Berne, Switzerland Thanks for your engagement!3379 Beth Conaway, Panama City Beach, FL, USA I've dreamed of diving the Great Barrier Reef since I was 14 and got my Jr. PADI certification. As a child I read about sharks and always hoped to go shark diving there one day.3378 Not publicly disclosed, Austin, TX, USA 3377 Danielle Guzy, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada 3376 Jimmy Wiklund, Stockholm, Sweden Didn't know that they cut off the fins without even killing them first. Or that it was so wide spread. God we (general public) are really uneducated and ignorant. :-(3375 Chad Dubrul, Austin, TX, USA Quit killing innocent animals for profit. It is sad and sick. Thanks.3374 Jean-Marc Nantel, Mont-tremblant , Quebec, Canada 3373 Not publicly disclosed, Jullianges, Haute-Loire, France Toute pche intensive est notre poque intolrable!!!! It is so frustrating and heartbreaking to see these people being controlled by money and not care for our future and living things. We need to be more educated and more people need to see Sharkwater.3370 Not publicly disclosed, Frisco, TX, USA 3369 Maximilian Milz, Sydney, NSW, Australia Save the sharks... the great barrier reef is gonna suck without them...3368 Not publicly disclosed, Hong Kong 3367 David Curty, Lyon, Rhone-Alpes, France I'm strongly opposed to shark fishing and finning. I hope your beautiful country won't let the industry of fishing kill the sharks. I hope your children will be able to dive with sharks in the future as I do now. Thank you for your attention and for the sharks.3366 Not publicly disclosed, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway 3365 Not publicly disclosed, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 3364 Not publicly disclosed, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada 3363 Krista Shannon, Lovington, NM, USA 3362 Karolina Golik, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada 3361 Not publicly disclosed, Townsville, Queensland, Australia 3360 Brad Pearen, Ajax, Ontario, Canada Shark fishing is ridiculous. Don't people realize how important these creatures are to our existance?3359 Joshua Green, Los Angeles, CA, USA 3358 Josh Christopher, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada I like to scuba dive. I'm not vacationing there if you've killed all the sharks.3357 Esmeray Elcim, Huddinge, Stockholm, Sweden 3356 Stephanie Nys, Superior, WI, USA I traveled abroad to study in Australia for three months and did scuba dive over eight times, hoping on seeing sharks. I saw three. Australia needs to help lead the world in showing respect for all animals that deserve a place in this world. In a year I will have finished my Marine Biology major and intend to leave for the coast to get a job. Eventually I may return to Australia and hope to see more sharks (including the whale sharks).3355 Graldine Esnaud, Angers, Pays de la Loire, France 3354 Not publicly disclosed, Batemans Bay, NSW, Australia 3353 Forrest Ingram, Ocean Beach, CA, USA Save the sharks..the great barrier reef is gonna suk without them...3352 Celine Leroy, Cergy, France Merci à vous tous qui essayé de changer les choses et de proteger notre seul et unique habitat "pachamama". Et pour tous ceux qui non pas vu le film je les invite a le visionner vous y apprendrer bien des choses. Il y va aussi de notre survie et de celle de nos descendants. Bien a vous scarecrowinca.3351 Patricia Warnock, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Be an example, be a human being -- ban all shark fishing worldwide.3350 Adam Gravelle, Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada After watching the movie "Sharkwater" it made me angry to see what mankind was doing to the species. I think that it is wonderful that there are people out that dedicate their lives to saving a precious part of our world and future.3349 DJ Wyszomirski, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada 3348 Kenny Sime, Milton Keynes, Bucks, UK Australia - a country so diverse, so beautiful, a land full of the most wonderful, colourful creatures on this earth. Its people are recognised as lovers of all things natural, and most of them are. However it is beyond belief to discover that Australia allows shark fishing to take place in its waters. The shark is an extremely important species and without it a whole eco-system will perish. It's numbers are in rapid decline yet all we can do is stand by and watch, action must be taken. We urge the Australian government to ban shark fishing and allow these wonderful creatures to exist, to flourish, and to continue to fascinate us forever.3347 Not publicly disclosed, Charpey, Drome, France 3346 Sarah Holtermann, Roaillan, Aquitaine, France 3345 Kara Morgan, Greeenville, TN, USA With all of the other environmental issues we face as a universe ... your time and money would be better spent elsewhere and leave the Great Barrier Reef and the sharks alone. Shame on you!3344 Emily Arthurs, Golden, British Columbia, Canada Watch 'Sharkwater' the documentary for a fast understanding of the importance of this issue.3343 Natalie Lund, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3342 Not publicly disclosed, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada How can any country respect a law that obliterates an entire species for no good reason? This is shocking and incredibly disturbing.3341 Mia Wyatt, Ellicott City, MD, USA 3340 Brittany Bymoen, Phoenix, AZ, USA 3339 Michael Pigneguy, Temple City, CA, USA "More than 100 million sharks are taken from the seas each year. For a group that has been around for the past 400 million years, sharks cannot survive this onslaught because most large sharks reach sexual maturity only at seven years, and then give birth to only a few pups each year. Research on the potential effects of the disappearance of sharks from selected ecosystems suggests that the consequences could be devastating for commercially and nutritionally important fishes. In the Hawaiian Reefs model, the removal of tiger sharks resulted in a crash in populations of tuna and jacks, due to a marked increase in seabirds, the shark's primary prey. In Chinese banquets, over 40 per cent of the meal cost comes from shark's fin soup. The challenge is to find restaurateurs who would take on the responsibility of saving sharks by sourcing an alternative dish which still allows them to sustain banquet profits. With China's 1.2 billion people gaining in affluence and holding to the tradition of shark's fin soup at celebrations, I don't give the 453 remaining species of sharks much of a chance.”3338 Not publicly disclosed, Ontario, Canada 3337 Ryan VandenBerg, Burlington, ON, Canada 3336 Shelley Brooks, Aurora, ON, Canada The practice of finning is inhumane and wasteful. It is our social responsibility to maintain the life and health of our waters. As a diver it sickens me how much we "rape" our ecosystem. We are barbaric as a whole. Have we not evolved? 3335 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada Please stop it! 3332 Andrai Desormeaux, Toronto, ON, Canada Watch Sharkwater. 3327 Christopher Berdos, Bradenton, FL, USA We know for what we are doing, we can collectively change our wills and in the process save ourselves. Eliminate the market for shark fins and this nonsense will stop. As always the solutions are easy, the path to attain them complicated. 3326 Jennifer Kantor, Ventura, CA, USA ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO STOP!3325 Christopher Corsi, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada3324 Jennette Boone, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 3323 Sarah Malo, Toronto, ON, Canada I am appalled and outraged by the information presented in the documentary Sharkwater - I am however, grateful to have seen it and to now be informed and encourage others to speak out about saving the sharks. 3322 Elizabeth Hoogendyk, Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada I don't know about you, but I'd like some fresh oxygen in my future. Stop killing the sharks! 3321 Not publicly disclosed, Swansea, Wales, UK Please stop shark fishing before its too late. 3320 Not publicly disclosed, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada It is disappointing to see the world point fingers at the Asian countries and condemn their lack of environmentalism while they are clearly no better. Allowing shark fishing to continue is deplorable and hypocritical. If Australia were to permit such legislation, it would most certainly affect my future choices about travel; I cannot support tourism in a country that is so morally confused. 3319 Rebecca Burrill, Ajax, ON, Canada Shark finning, is slowly wiping out an amazing unique creature and human actions are to blame. Sharks are not similar in the way of the global warming, there is no other alternative methods of creating sharks. They only have one chance, so lets give them a chance! 3316 Not publicly disclosed, Jacksonville, FL, USA Sharks are the most misunderstood, beautiful creatures on the planet. They deserve respect. They've been around so much longer than humans. They're amazing creatures and we can learn so much from them. They've evolved over millenia to be incredible creatures and sharp predators. We humans have only just begun to evolve; hopefully humans can evolve to respect these awesome creatures so they are around for thousands of years to come. I want my grandchildren to be able to see real sharks, not just pictures in a book. 3314 Soler Louis, Saint Mamert du Gard, Languedoc Roussillon, France I say No to any form of shark fishing. They need protection immediately. 3310 Caroline Williams, Adelaide, SA, Australia Protect our sharks & show that Australians truly are a nation that cares about its flora & fauna. Sharks (being an apex predator) play a vital role in the fragile marine ecosystem therefore we cannot afford to meddle with nature & they have to be protected at all costs. 3309 Bradley Dohnt, Adelaide, SA, Australia I'm ashamed an Australian government agency could consider such a unsustainable practice. With so many species, both marine and terrestrial under threat to engage in such a practice is yet another step backwards. 3308 Ashley Timlin, Barrie, ON, Canada It's time that human being takes its responsibility to protect our planet and stop the massacre of sharks, dolphins etc..I'm fed up to see the disaster that we do all around the world and our "fantastic" ability to destroy. 3306 Lauren Brownlie, Truro, Cornwall, UK By Law all shark finning should be made illegal and I for one will do everything in my power to make that a reality. 3301 Eric Lutz, Toronto, ON, Canada Knowing what we do about sharks why would you possibly even consider starting a shark fishery on the Great Barrier Reef? The reef itself is in enough danger from our society. What will happen to the world population of sharks. I'm appalled is all I can say. 3299 Sean Cosgrove, Nashville, TN, USA Stop filling your pockets and end this slaughter. 3298 Amber Richards, Guilderton, WA, Australia Don't destroy a tourism bonus whereby divers travel to the Great Barrier Reef to view and interact with sharks. 3293 Kevin Burrowes, Clarence Park, SA, Australia The world's shark populations are in critical decline. Shark fishing is cruel and destructive to the marine environment. 3292 Line Bergeron, Sault Ste Marie, ON, Canada ***Stop shark fishing and the shark fishing industry!*** *** Arrtons la pche aux requins et son industrie!*** 3291 Stephanie Lopez, Huntington, NY, USA I strongly oppose harming sea life in any way. 3290 Eric Goddard, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand Stop destroying the earth! We need the humble sharks to survive ourselves. Www.sharkwater.com 3285 Alison Clay, Nottingham, England We have to do something about this now, not tomorrow, not next week or next year, now. Ever second, minute and mile used to benefit sharks, WILL benefit humanity. 3282 Vincent Louail, Nantes, Loire Atlantique, France Stop killing them! 3280 Not publicly disclosed, London, England, UK Save the sharks. 3279 Stanley Dow, Norman, OK, USA Dear Sir, I would expect this from certain Asian countries but not from our friends!!! 3278 Fadhila Melliti, Paris,France Fell in love with a great white shark when I had 11 years m'obsdent since sharks because they fascinate me by their beauty, their power. People are afraid because they do not master the shark. Their response to this fear is the killings. The man has no right of life or death on an animal whatsoever! We must stop this carnage or introduce laws to punish abuse some powers. 3277 Stephanie Penev, Toronto, ON, Canada Few things I have seen in my life thus far have disturbed me as much as some of the scenes of senseless torture and killing of sharks and other sea creatures, in the documentary film Sharkwater. I cannot understand why more decisive action has not been taken as of yet, to stop the murder of these incredible animals, and in doing so protect our own fate as a species on this planet. That is not even the most critical aspect of this problem for me- the idea of mutilating a creature while it is still alive, and letting it die a slow torturous death, and seeming to enjoy it- this is the most revolting thing to me. It makes me ashamed to be a human being, the same species as the 'things'- as they can't be people- who do enact these injustices as a living. Absolutely despicable in every way. The more people see Sharkwater and become aware of this crisis, the better. I will do whatever I can to promote this issue among those I know. People can and must make an effort to make their living in some other way- there is simply to excuse for the blatant torture and murder of an entire species, to uphold the vapid and pathetic status quo of the Western lifestyle and the idea of the Western lifestyle- take what you can, when you can, however you can, at whatever cost to those around you. And especially do so if it will make you seem more important in other's eyes. What a shame. Greed and ignorance hold sway over this excuse for a society we've built according to Capitalist dogma. 3276 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia Stop Shark Fishing. 3275 Fabrice Barand, Lagny Sur Marne, France How can we kill our future? Are people so silly? Thanks to you to be here..... 3274 Rick Crawford, Pickering, ON, Canada Every little bit that is done to save all sharks is part of a giant step to preserve there right to be. We need them to be just as they are, not a trophy or a menu item. Please, STOP the slaughter. We can't turn back once they are gone. These are beautiful creatures that needed to be helped to prove to future generations that we were here and gave a damn. 3273 Not publicly disclosed, Bentonville, VA, USA This is not an Asian problem, this is a global problem. Sharks are being killed legally and illegally, largely unchallenged, from Australia to South Africa, Costa Rica to the Galapagos. You can find shark fin soup in restaurants from Seoul to Soho. Fish and chip shops in Australia sell shark meat under the guise of flake, in the UK they call it rock salmon. We all need to do everything we can to halt demand and challenge those who seek to open new shark fisheries. 90% of the worlds sharks have already been wiped out, now is the time to act to save the remaining 10%. Many people will be looking to Australia for strong leadership in this area; its time to decide where you stand, either with those who seek to exploit and plunder the world for short-term commercial gain, or to act with vision, responsibility and compassion to protect the world and all those who inhabit it. 3270 Not publicly disclosed, Cookstown, ON, Canada It appalls and scares me that the decisions of a few can have such a drastic affect on the entire world. Please be part of making a positive decision for the rest of the world and for the creatures of the sea. 3269 Thomas McGregor, Sydney, NSW, Australia Peter Garrett, you are an integral part of the government for which I voted. Push to ban the importation of shark fin to Australia. 3268 Christina Koehler, Marburg, Hessen, Germany No more fish finning!!! Let's help and ban ALL shark finning now!!! 3266 Henrik Dunr, Genarp, Sweden Hi !I am a Swedish electronic engineer and I have just watched Sharkwater, the movie. Last year I was in Malaysia and learned how to scuba dive. During my time there I continuously dived with sharks and have since developed a great respect and admiration for these wonderful creatures. If what I understand is correct, the shark population is decreasing and is facing imminent risk of extinction. This is not acceptable. Imagine the overwhelming slaughter of sharks just so that wealthy Chinese people can eat their precious soup and you can easily draw parallels to baby seal slaughter for their furs (which is now considered strongly unethical and is prohibited) and the hunt of rhinos for their horns (which is also prohibited). Why should mankind be allowed to treat sharks this way? I realise that I am just a small voice and that I am easily ignored. I implore you to listen to not just me, but listen to reason and realise, before it is too late, that action has to be taken. Protect the shark, for me and yourselves, for our planet and for the legacy we leave behind. Yours sincerely, Henrik Dunr. 3265 Nicky Andrews, Melbourne, VIC, Australia Sharks are beautiful. Don't you want your children and their children to be able to see a live shark too? 3264 Nathan Glasgow, Galena, IL, USA Overfishing of shark populations for profit and the inevitable destruction of ocean ecosystems is morally and ethically reprehensible. Especially with regards to finning which has no purpose as far as food sources and is only a way for wealthy people to prove their status. 3263 Sara Hedblom, Stockholm, Sweden Please preserve the pristine and beautiful sharks. 3262 Christine Bowes, Singapore Right now the Shark populations can not take shark finning. It would put your country and others in risks of depopulating all sharks. 3260 Crystal Beckmann, Semaphore Park, SA, Australia Please let's all save our sharks and be smart about caring for the oceans and ALL it's creatures! 3257 Eric Tremblay, Mt St-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada I cannot believe people can still do those things in 2008. 3256 Justin Widener, Bentonville, VA, USA Sharks never did anything intentionally to us. The only reason they bite us is because we look like potentia | |||
