Wildcoast Press Release

PLAYA TRONCONES, GUERRERO
May 6, 2008

Thanks to the work of WiLDCOAST and the strong support of worldwide public opinion we were able to stop the slaughter of sharks in Playa Troncones in the Mexican coast of Guerrero, and achieved a public commitment to stop threats to this species protected by Mexican and international laws.

"This “ad hoc” campaign was a good example of how quickly organizations and society must act to respond to this kind of events in order to avoid damage to our oceans and marine species.

"Species such as sharks are essential for the ocean’s ecological balance”, said Aida Navarro, Wildlife Conservation Manager at WiLDCOAST, who added that after seeing society’s rejection to the killing of sharks, will double efforts to raise awareness in this region with their "Save Sharks" campaign.
