Sharks are being decimated for the sake of an unnecessary "food" item! We must take into consideration, as well, the terrible and prolonged suffering imposed on these animals when their fins are hacked off and they are thrown alive back into the ocean. This insanity must come to an end - Westchester County is a good place to start. I might add also that as an ethical vegan, I believe that all sentient beings deserve to live their lives free of human domination and interference.559 Not publicly disclosed Ban it NOW!!558 Teresa D'Amico, New York, NY Westchester county's humane and forward-thinking decision to ban shark-fin products will pave the way for other counties to have the moral courage to do the same!557 Cody Winchester 556 Anietie Ukpe 555 Sharon Buazard 554 Not publicly disclosed I'm an ocean swimmer who is very concerned about the effects of shark depletion on the ocean ecosystems. It will also set a stellar example for others to follow.542 Not publicly disclosed 541 Tanya Brunner FL 540 Frank J. Retacco, Scarsdale, Westchester County, NY, USA
The cutting of sharks' fins and dumping the carcass overboard is horrible. [Some] people have little or no regard for living animals. 539 Not publicly disclosed How can we endorse the mutilation of endangered animals, then releasing them butchered, but alive, to suffer and die? If you have not watched the DVD "Sharkwater", I encourage you to do so. YOU are in a position to make a difference, before it is too late. As my representative, I beg you to ban shark fin products in our county.533 Zenon Petryszyn, Yonkers, Westchester County, NY, USA Up to 100,000,000 sharks are killed annually. Do the math! There is a serious problem here! We need to open people’s eyes. The word has to get out there & we need to make a bold statement about this to the average Janes & Joes of the world. I salute you for your effort.532 Nelson E. Baumer, Ossining, Westchester County, NY As an avid diver I have been lucky enough to be in the water with these magnificent predators. It is the height of human hubris to sanction the wholesale slaughter of these animals. We are likely to reap the wild wind if we do not change our ways and speak out against this atrocity. 531 Virginia Shy Yes, there's got to be a better way of displaying upper status than having to take a life for it. Come on people!!!525 Lynne Bamber, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada I support and applaud your efforts on this serious issue and hope other governments will follow suit. 524 Not publicly disclosed Being a NY resident I do not support any retailer that sells shark products. We are killing off the top predator in the very top of the food chain, and this will have very serious results for humans who do not understand. This is very very serious for our lives as we know them. We need sharks! Please save them! 516 Kimberly Ann Moore Stop the mindless slaughter of the oceans top predators. All shark-fin products should be banned.508 Frank Lasinski, Berlin, Germany My respect and be strong with your will to protect our environment, in this case the sharks - we have only this one...507 Norma M. Let's get the ball rolling on this issue and urge other counties and states to follow suit. 492 Not publicly disclosed Come on people, its 2008 we know better than to be killing our sharks for food when we have all the cows & chickens a human could ask for. Sharks are TOO VITAL within the oceanic community for us to be killing for fin soup.... DISGRACEFUL. We're the USA not Japan!!!! PLEASE BAN SHARK FIN PRODUCTS!!! 490 Matt Lunn, Petaluma, California, United States Ban shark finning!!! It's a cruel, disgusting process!! 488 Russ Anthony Sanoian, Monterey, CA, USA Please stop the slaughter, maybe we could use Tofu fins instead of real fins. 487 Not publicly disclosed Westchester could set a wonderful precedent for other locales by passing this law. 483 T. Stone, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA DO THE RIGHT THING! Ban shark fin products! 478 Not publicly disclosed A national ban is in order!!!! 476 Not publicly disclosed We simply must save the sharks, ban any kind of shark products. How can we tell people that sharks are in danger if it's still legal to eat their fins ?! 473 Dana Diotte, Nelson, BC, Canada Please save the sharks. Thanks for fighting this cause. Shark killing is horrible. Vreni 470 Not publicly disclosed No more shark fin soup! A bowl of soup is not worth a world without sharks... which is what we're headed to! 451 Not publicly disclosed How about moving to ban shark finning in the whole world. 449 Not publicly disclosed Please help these important species' survival. I hope you make the right decision for our oceans. 447 Twyla Douaire, Harwood, Ontario, Canada New York residents, residents worldwide, do NOT need shark fins for any reason. Ban their sale and stop the atrocious practice of finning sharks and then dumping them back in the ocean to die. 446 Kirstin Davidson Ban the sale of all shark fin products. 445 Alec Connah Make the first step to getting this barbaric trade stopped on a global leve 440 Dan Huber, Tampa, FL, USA The unregulated worldwide killing of sharks will cause serious damage to the U.S. fishery industry and thereby cost many jobs in this great country. 435 Jane Margaret Burd If we continue to overexploit our seas there will be nothing left. Being the apex predators the sharks are the first affected. 434 Thomas D'eri, Muttontown, NY USA Please don't hesitate! This is an amazing feat, you need to be the leader for our cities! 431 Robert Bradford Burke, Bainbridge, Georgia, U.S.A. I support the ban of shark fin products 430 Not publicly disclosed Sharks are a critical component of the ecological circle of life. We must not lose them. 427 Not publicly disclosed Take this opportunity and show the world what must be done. 425 Not publicly disclosed As a SCUBA diver and father I want my children and their children to be able to see the ocean and the amazing creatures that call it home. 423 Laura E. Rock, PA, USA By stopping the selling of these products, it will help to deter a market for them. We can't keep killing these precious animals, soon there will not be any left to kill. 422 Jena McNeal, FL, USA Sharks serve as the top predator in the food chain. Removing sharks from that top spot screws with the entire balance of the ocean ecosystem. That could/will cause huge changes in the number of fish/mammals we see in the ocean. Please help conserve these important fish! 420 Randy Prouty, Bolingbrook, IL, USA Way to go. Get this done so I can get my state reps busy on a similar bill!!! 419 Not publicly disclosed BAN ALL SHARK FIN PRODUCTS! If you don't, you are no worse then the homicidal convicts we put away! 412 Not publicly disclosed The killing of sharks is a crime that has disrupted out environment. It must stop 410 Neil Hammerschlag The oceans die with the sharks. It's 5 to twelve and we're still sleeping- time to wake.404 Scott Johnson, Murfreesboro, TN Please ban shark fin products. 403 Sandra Jean Pearce, Ventura, CA, USA I am strenuously opposed to the sale of any shark product because I am strenuously opposed to the killing of any sharksl They are part of our invaluable ocean system and should not be interfered with. As a scuba diver for 19 years, I have seen the drastic effects of over-fishing and polluting our oceans. Roberta J. Finke 399 Ben Arthur, Isle of Man, UK WHEN THE SHARK DIES; THE SEA DIES! We have to protect those magnificent animals as they have been for so long on this planet, and they should be a part of it, always!!!! 392 Beverly Tisnower, Philadelphia, PA, USA I grew up in Westchester county and have many family members still living there. I plead with you to demonstrate reverence for these great creatures and help protect them. Westchester should be a leader on this front! Thank YOU! Jennifer Nolan 389 Not publicly disclosed It is Time to STOP Finning and sales Shark products right now. Think about our next Generation. Kind Regards Michael www.SharkProtect.eu 386 Not publicly disclosed You'll be doing the world a favor by getting this legislation approved.
Please get this passed! I would love to see similar legislation for New York City and the rest of world for that matter. 377 Iris Lee
366 Andrew Hall, Oak Forest, IL, USA I've been against shark fin products and the process for a long time, I love sharks and equally as much will do what I can to protect them. 365 Ngo Swee Lim, Singapore Don't destroy my granchildren's legacy! Please preserve these ancient creatures for future generations. 363 Rob Walker Fleet, Hampshire, England Again, I respect other cultures in our incredibly varied planet, but I'm afraid that when those values bring our environment to the brink of collapse, something must be done. No one has the right to deprive the whole planet of any creature which has been around far longer than we have. We should all have a say. 362 Jacqueline M. Shumway, Holt, MI, USA Please ban shark products before it is too late. 355 Not publicly disclosed I wonder if these people (using the term loosely) would chop off the legs & arms off babies. If they also heard that baby joints soup was for the consumption of royalty..! The overseeing gov't has to create different streams of income for these poor and easily manipulated workers.! 353 Not publicly disclosed I feel and vote very strongly in support of this issue 351 Peter Simpson, Sydney, NSW, Australia I am ashamed to have shark fins being sold in my county, especially being a shark research intern working on conservation methods. Please put the ban through! 348 Ian Fairclough, Australia This is a huge step in saving the sharks! 344 Jeff Neal I want to thank you for working on a plan to ban shark fin products. It is absolutely disgusting and horrible what is done to sharks every year. Over 100million are plucked out of the ocean every year for these deplorable processes! I want to thank you and express my gratitude as a NYer and an American to stop these immoral and unjust acts. Please continue to act to save these beautiful creatures. Thank you! 341 Roberto Gil Lameiro, Vigo(Pontevedra), Galicia Spain The ban of shark fin products would be an important victory to the human been. 340 Charity C. Assell Gilberts IL USA Please help stop the sale of these products before it's too late. Sharks are essential to every ecosystem, however small. 336 Steffen Neumann I urge you to take action and help stop shark fin trade. 333 Christine Mc Bride I spent a month on the Isla del Coco off the coast of Costa Rica and saw the effects of illegal fishing on the shark population mostly destined for the Taiwanese market, we need to do everything we can to stop shark fishing.... 332 Natasha Preston, London, UK Please help to stop the mindless slaughter of our ocean's greatest predator, the shark. 331 Victor-Manuel Hernandez, Barcelona, Spain Shark finning is cruelty to animals. Please, you have the power to stop this cruelty. Please vote in favor of the animal. 329 Sera Onishi I think this is a very important step in helping to regain balance in our ecosystem of which sharks are a very important part. Thank you! 328 Teriana Cara Fromme, NYC, NY, USA Finning is animal cruelty and animal murder by its definitions. Cutting of a sharks "arms & legs" and tossing it back in the ocean to suffocate & drown. 326 Alan Kempner, Sacramento, CA, USA Our oceans will change for the worse without sharks. Please avoid short-term satisfaction in favor of long-term benefits. Let the sharks live! 325 Dieter Holzmaier Vienna, Austria Shark products are not good, no matter how you analyze it, and far better arguments could be made for selling human-based products - yet THAT would be frowned-upon, no?... 322 Justine Schultes Hamilton Canada Please stop shark finning! 316 Kelvyn Parkes, Welshpool, Powys, UK Please help this horrible trend END!! 314 Not publicly disclosed PLEASE do what you can to enact the ban on shark fins. I am a scuba diver, and I wish to see sharks thrive. They are a necessary and beautiful part of our oceans. 309 David A. Sifre, Bronxville, Westchester County, NY, USA There is nothing positive to be said for the barbaric and wasteful practice of finning. Driving animals to extinction and driving ecosystems to collapse, merely because it is profitable, must be outlawed. Westchester County should be proud to be at the vanguard of legislation needed to preserve our oceans. 308 Jill Bishop, Benfleet, Essex, UK Doesn't matter that I'm way down here in Texas. This law needs to be implemented to get the ball rolling in regards banning the sale of ALL shark products..... 301 Dani Pen, Lafayette, CA, USA Please sign the SHARK FIN PRODUCT PROHIBITION LAW. We don't want to see anymore species being carelessly eliminated, in the name of soup! In addition, it will encourage other cities and counties, to do the same.300 Joseph Patrick Scanlan, Marquette, MI, USA Removing the fins of sharks is an incredibly cruel practice which is aiding in the decimation of many shark species. 299 Tom Harris Please leave the sharks alone before they become extinct. Between the human profit motive and gourmandism, people are forgetting that these creatures have a right to exist too. The mercury issue is a good reason to stop it now. 293 Charles Levesque I agree that shark finning is unnecessary & cruel.291 Heidi Coluzzi 290 Claudia Ford, New York, NY, USA Thanks for being a leader on this important issue! 289 Amanda Mason, Playa Del Rey, CA, USA Ban Shark Finning!!! 287 Sarah Kneisel, Birmingham, MI, USA I cast my full support to the stopping and subsequent ban off this useless act of cruelty. Sharks provide a necessary element to the marine ecosystem and the potential of extinction of these creatures will create chaos with far reaching effects! 285 Michael P. O'Hara, New York, NY, USA We need to stop the constant drain on our natural resources before its' too late to recover. Ignorance is no excuse! 277 Not publicly disclosed It is of the utmost importance to pass this ruling and ban the sale and trade of shark fin products. The survival of the shark species will ensure natural balance of the marine environment and as a result our own survival. 275 Kenny Kidd, Sapulpa, OK USA Shark finning must be stopped! 274 Jerry G. Killinger Stop devastating the shark population by promoting finning!! 269 Not publicly disclosed This is very important - please help us - thank you, Liz 264 Dr. Brian W Darvell, Hong Kong The proposal is to be congratulated - this is the most far-sighted move I have seen in a long while. You will set the scene for a global change. Well done! See it through ...BWD 263 Not publicly disclosed Let's get this rolling!! 259 Not publicly disclosed This would be a fantastic step forward for helping sharks - Good luck for getting this through! 251 Grant Smith, JHB, South Africa Sharks are apex predators, as such their life history characteristics and reproductive capacities mean they are not designed to withstand heavy predation. Commercial exploitation of shark species should be stopped. 250 Eric Wright, Carlsbad, CA, USA 90 percent of the worlds population of sharks have been decimated - long lining and shark finning has killed more shark far faster than they can reproduce - FOR WHAT ... shark fin soup. Something must be done now. I support a full ban on the sale of all shark products and want you to go further and encourage conservation, protection and to be smart about the fish we eat, who we support and to protect and take care of the seas, our people and our planet. 247 Clifton Michael Beard, Wimborne, Dorsett, UK This is a great step in the right direction towards making shark finning as abhorrent to the general public as whale, rhino and tiger hunting. It is a tragedy that the survival of this group of animals has been brought to the edge by a pointless and misguided fashion statement. Thank goodness some people care. Regards, Cliff 246 Paul Horscraft, Sheffield, UK If sharks were mammals these beautiful creatures would already be protected with a world-wide ban on all shark products. Unfortunately the populations of many shark species are now so depleted that it may already be too late to save them from extinction. Something has to be done now to prevent the loss of these wonderful apex predators. The knock-on effects of their loss to the eco-system would be catastrophic. Please act now before it is too late. 245 Not publicly disclosed I think the sale of shark fin products is despicable and deplorable as it condones the senseless slaughter of millions of sharks each year and the sooner shark fin products are banned internationally, the better. 242 Not publicly disclosed It's the right thing to do. 238 Linda Smith A step in the right direction 232 Magdolna G. Sebestyen, Madison, WI, USA This is a good start, but a lot more will be needed to save these magnificent animals. We can only hope that our action will not come too late. 231 Holly Drouillard As top predators, sharks are vital to the ecological balance and overall health of our oceans. Unfortunately they grow and reproduce very slowly, so are extremely vulnerable to overfishing. Shark populations are in serious decline worldwide, due in large part to the huge increase in demand for shark fin soup. Please set a good example and do the right thing by banning shark fin products. Sincerely, Mark Strickland 228 Morgan White, Cut-n-Shoot, TX, USA Please pass this law, it could be the template for future laws in the entire country. 224 Abhishek Agarwal As a diver, I am beginning to understand the negative impacts the declining shark population is bound to cause in the ocean, and subsequently on land for all of us. It is crucial for fisheries and sharking finning organizations to understand that this is not an unlimited supply, and very soon, the supply will be completely depleted. A worldwide enforcement is crucial to keep the population in check. I hope other countries enact a worldwide organization to monitor and enforce regulations against shark finning. 223 Qian Xi Teng Please Stop The Endless Slaughter Of Helpless Animals 213 Not publicly disclosed Thank you. 211 Helen Winter Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia Please pass this law banning the sale of all shark fin products! 210 Terri Melloway, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia In this area of Austalia, Shark-Fin Soup can be found at most Oriental eateries. All the Shark Fins certainly are not obtained legally. There appears to be no ruling stopping this practice of serving this as food. Shark of every species is now under threat due to poaching and the demand for a ridiculous non-nourishing component in Oriental cuisine. A total Ban must be imposed and more Govt. participation to put a halt to the use of shark and fins. 207 Aidan O'Dowd-Ryan, Miami Humans have a duty to protect their fellow creatures - whether finned, or four legged. Please take the necessary steps to help fulfill that duty and ban all shark products. 204 Phillip Otake, Hitachi, Japan It's sad and disgusting People need to be educated. 197 Frederick Lawrence, Venice, CA, USA Sharks are a critical part of the Earth's eco-system. As a result your passage of this legislation would send a message to the world that the people of the United States recognize this importance and are taking tangible action to reduce and eliminate this horrific activity. Thank you. 192 Dr. Patrick Ryan, Thornton, CO, USA If you pass this law you will be setting a wonderful precedent. While you are at it, ban chondroitin as well. 191 Lisa Ghiozzi, Hartsdale, Westchester County, NY, USA We MUST acknowledge our responsibility to take care of the planet and all the species that have evolved to live here. 189 Curt Perry, South Bend, IN, USA It is imperative that we disallow the practice of shark finning- banning the use of shark parts is a crucial step in the right direction. Shark fining is cruel, wasteful and completely unnecessary. Lets finally get this done in the US. 185 Danielle Heinrichs If you pass this law, you will set an example for other municipalities to follow in the effort to protect the sharks and, in so doing, help protect the oceans. 183 Emma Smith, RI, USA This is definitly a good thing for Westchester county, a good commercial. As I will be a flight attendant, I'll have a closer look on that county and help that county to be better known worldwide. 174 Yuri Sobolev, Arlington, VA, USA Please pass legislation banning the sale of shark fin products. Sharks evolved 400 million years ago, we could now lose some species in the next decade. (see the 2007 IUCN list) Finning makes use of only 2 to 5 percent of the animal, but shark fins are now one of the most highly valued marine commodities. A bowl of shark fin soup can sell for $100, so there is high incentive for fishermen to fin. There is no medicinal or nutritional value to shark's fin...in fact, quite the contrary, it has the highest mercury content of all seafood. Sharks are critical to the entire marine ecosystem: they are top predators and help to keep smaller sharks and rays from devouring other commercially important species of marine life. Sharks are critical to all life forms. Visit www.seafoodwatch.org to see the list of alternative sustainable seafood sources. This site will help you make seafood choices for healthy oceans & people! 168 Paul Graham Shark finning is barbaric, Arrest the people doing it, confiscate their catch, destroy their boats. Political will needs to be changed. Easy, not. 167 Michael Masloski I lived in Mt. Kisco for a while. This would be a nice precedent to set for the other counties in the metro New York area. 166 Larry Mandel, Skokie, IL, USA This problem affects all people with any consciousness relative to needless acts of violence towards animals. 165 Bernard R. Poisson, Draper, UT, USA Unless we ban the use/sales of shark products or preferably place an outright ban on the indiscriminate killing of this majestic apex predator, our oceanic ecosystems face complete collapse! 164 Espen Rekdal, Bergen, Norway Sharks need help....protect them. 160 Peter Schneider, Avatoru, Rangiroa, French Polynesia. Shark finning is a barbaric practice. It has to be stopped. Not many people care about it and unfortunately it needs the scientific evidence that consumption of shark fins is a risk to our health, to stop the massacre. What we need in general is more respect, if it is for other people, nations, religions and opinions. For all living creatures and nature in general. This planet can exist without us, but we cannot without "our" planet. 159 Ian Murphy, Kingston, Jamaica Protection of the environment is our legacy for future generations. 158 Krista Volk, Meridian, ID, USA Do this now. Sharks are endangered and this food product serves absolutely no useful or nutritional purpose other than a status symbol. 156 Sandra Critelli, Linden, NY, USA I applaud your support of this initiative to ban the sale of shark fin products. It is one thing to sustainably harvest the ocean's natural resources for survival, and another to unscrupulously hunt a species to near extinction merely to supply a consumable product of negligible nutritional value and scientifically-unproven medicinal worth. 153 Randy Harwood, Rolling Hills Estates, CA, USA Way to go Westchester! 151 Charles R. Nicklin, San Diego, USA The senseless killing of sharks for their fins must stop. Their destruction by humans upsets the natural order of the oceans and further contributes to imbalances in the earth's ecosystems. 147 Steve Hinczynski, AZ Please stop selling shark fins, the purchase and selling of fins promotes population destruction and sharks are barely holding on as it is. 144 Teresa F. Johnson, Gillette, WY, USA PLEASE!!!....Do the right thing! 142 Zachary Aaron Widman, Duluth, MN, USA Protect the shark for human survival 140 Theresa Karasek Sharks are being driven to extinction because of shark finning and other destructive practices. There is no need for it. Let’s ban shark fin products. 137 Steve Tilkin, Highland Park, IL, USA Not publicly disclosed133 Martin Suter, Winter Springs, FL , USA 132 Hannah B. Medd 131 Not publicly disclosed 130 David Haas Please ban all products that if continued will further decimate the world population of this important species. 129 Manuel San Felix Garcia, Formentera, Baleares, Spain We need the sharks population to keep the health fo our oceans 128 Michaela Loudov, Liberec, Czech Republic Thank you VERY much for this proactive step to protect sharks. They are not cute nor cuddly; however, they are a crucial animal (apex predator) for the ocean's ecosystem. 125 Michele Westmorland I am thrilled to see the first of what I hope, will be many petitions throughout the country to ban the import of shark products. I have often wondered why we allowed it in to a nation where wildlife protection is held as an important matter. Sharks are in serious decline and must be protected to keep our oceans healthy. 124 Rachel Pivnick I am a New Yorker who is disgusted that there is so much shark fin sold in our state. I have witnessed firsthand the decimation of the shark populations around the world and the only way to curb it is through legislation. My hat goes off to Westchester County for considering this - now let's see it happen! 122Not publicly disclosed Congratulations to the Westchester County government for taking such an important step! Other governments, including our Federal government should follow your lead! 120 Not publicly disclosed Let me know when you get this up to the Assembly and Senate level. I lobby alot with the NYS Conservation Council and other groups. 119 Marc Montocchio Finally someone is doing something that is so long overdue! 115 Not publicly disclosed This has got to stop before they are all gone! 113 Nadine Umbscheiden, Munich, Germany WELL DONE, THANKS 106 Robin Yeoman I was raised in Westchester and now live in San Diego. I have witnessed shark finning and it is an abomination to all. 104 Terry Grainger This would be a great way to get the ball rolling on legislation to stop the slaughter of sharks. 97 Alexander Sharkman Buttigieg Shark finning is killing millions of sharks every year. It needs to be totally banned and the sale of fins stopped. You taking this brave move would be a world first. Thank you. 96 Dustin Crawford, Saskatoon, SK, Canada I hope you pass this legislation as it will be a giant step forward and hopefully get others on the right track too. 95 Not publicly disclosed I believe that this ban could be the first genuine change in the mindset of everyday people that sharks need to be in the oceans and not served up in a bowl. Hopefully this ban will act as a catalyst throughout the states and spread in to the rest of the world. 91 Stephanie Tuttle, USA This is a very important attempt to help save our invaluable sea life. 88 Not publicly disclosed Maybe we should allow finning the fishermen! 85 Scott Papp, Greenwich, CT, USA Stop this travesty now...this is not cultural, it is murder. 84 Alithea Nunes, Vancouver, BC I strongly support the initiative as shark 'finning' is an issue that needs to be addressed; because of the severity of the problem even via an official ban like proposed in Westchester, NY (although I'm usually no 'bans' person!) 80 Margaret Silver Sharks are misunderstood beautiful creatures. Save them! 71 Asif Azam BAN IT! Finning is a disgusting trade and the results and products from it can bring nothing but harm.66 Cheri A. Bedwell, Van Alstyne, TX, USA 65 Joann Bohannon-Sacci, Peekskill, Westchester County, NY, USA We are scuba divers. It is a crime what we are doing to our planet. We wholeheartedly support this ban. 64 Pedro Nunes Will the headline read "Westchester, NY leaders in fight for shark conservation" or "Westchester, NY deliver blow to shark conservation"? Hopefully the former... 63 Jeffrey Hartog Come on let's do it, it's not to late yet, but only yet. Thanks! 61 Not pubicly disclosed This should be a federal law. 55 Carly Pepin Individuals can take their own responsibility about potential health hazards as long as they are informed. I am more concerned about the destabilization of the shark populations, and therewith, the entire marine ecosystem. In addition, the practice of finning is among the most cruel and wasteful one can imagine. Finally, shark fin products are a luxury, not a necessity. All this makes shark finning both irresponsible and immoral. 53 Gary John Adkison, Coconut Creek, FL, USA Your efforts to ban the sale of shark products are historic and significant and will have far reaching impact for the future generations who will inherit our planet. 52 Marco Wannenmacher, Germany It’s a shame there is no ban already ! 51 Josser E. Delgado Almandoz, M.D., Boston, MA, USA This is an important issue, and I support the ban of shark fin products! Thank you.48 Karen V. Brown, Victoria, BC Canada Hello There. Thank you so much for doing this wonderful act in helping our Shark friends. I am sure if they spoke English they would thank you many times over. I hope that your brave, courageous and humane act is setting the example that many more will follow. Thank you so very much!Sincerely Appreciative, Karen V Brown 47 Gary Brennand, Brinsmead, Queensland, Australia Finally! I would be so proud if Westchester sets an example for the rest of the world! 45 Not publicly disclosed I applaud the county for considering this bill; hopefully you'll set an important precedent in this country. As long as shark fin soup is profitable, there is little motivation for restaurants to stop serving it; I hope more local governments will step in and help put a stop to this horrible practice. 44 Eduardo Nunes, Vancouver, BC, Canada I totally agree with the ban. 42 Lisa C. Ghiozzi, Hartsdale, Westchester County, NY, USA I urge the Board to aggressively pursue this legislation. 39 James Sacci, Peekskill, Westchester County, NY, USA It is one thing to hear about this going on in another country, but right here in the USA!! We know better!! Please put a stop to this and be an example for the rest of the world of what the right thing to do is. No soup is worth what is being done to these species. PLEASE STOP THIS!!! 36 Simon Spear, Banstead, Surrey, UK As an underwater filmmaker and shark conservationist I applaud your proposals to ban shark products in Westchester County. If only we could see such and enlightened approach by the rest of the world and we might have a chance to save these amazing animals from extinction. 35 Zoe Spear, Banstead, Surrey, UK I am proud that my home county will lead the country, and in fact the planet, in this most important issue and with the foresight required to save our oceans and our planet. 33 Michael Rosa, Croton on Hudson, Westchester County, NY, USA I completely support this action 32 Alicia Campbell As a shark researcher and advocate, I am very excited that you may be on the forefront of saving sharks by considering making shark fin products prohibited. Please follow through on this and do so. Thank you! 31 Not publicly disclosed It is time for politicians to support the preservation of wildlife through legislation that sends a message to environmentally destructive practices. 28 Harry Kreigh, Sacramento, CA Well done !!! 19 Tim Moran Ground breaking initiative, well done 18 Catherine Teng, Singapore Wish the Singaporean legislators have your courage too!!! 17 Paul Klaver, The Netherlands Thanks for considering to set such an important precedent! An avid diver and shark fan! 14 Jean Bourrel, Vigny, France Please set a much needed precedent with this ban. Within a single week’s time, over a million sharks will have be killed and China alone will build 3 new longliners for more finning. Within 3 years time, 250 million more "fin-addicts" will be wealthy enough to partake in shark fin soup. The math then gives us just 3 more years until the world's sharks are ALL functionally extinct. Over 400 million years of evolution erased in a few more years for this idiotic rubbery soup? That's beyond tragic. 11 Not publicly disclose Thank you for doing this! 8 Leandro Blanco, Westchester County, NY 5 James Keller As an Asian-American, I support this ban on shark fin products. 2 Shawn J. Heinrichs This is critical legislation that would establish Westchester as a environmentally conscious county that cares about the future of our natural resources for future generations. 1 Michael Skoletsky, New York, NY, USA Thank you for considering this law to ban shark fin products. I hate to call for banning any product that may restrict someone's private pleasure, but nobody has the right to contribute to such a rapid and disastrous impact on the oceans by eliminating sharks.

| It’s hard to believe in this day and age that there isn’t a ban on this already in the US!!! If everyone treated the planets oceans they way Japan does there would be nothing left for anyone to see or eat. Here is a link that shows some of the horrible things that are being done to our oceans everyday(http://www.cdnn.info/), and lists some of the countries that support these activities (The Dirty Dozen). Show your support and BOYCOT these countries (travel, products, and any way possible)!! It is through people like JASA (Jim Abernethy’s Scuba Adventures) that the oceans have a chance!!!!! | |
