The shark's reputation as devil of the deep took off after the movie "Jaws, " which portrayed it as a grisly killer of humans.

In reality it's mostly the other way around.

Shark populations worldwide have plummeted in recent decades.That's due to overfishing, increased demand for shark fins and meat and to industrial fishing practices, with many shark species considered at risk of extinction by the World Conservation Union.
