Annotated Plan to Save the Sharks |

Last August I mentioned that the National marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) was working on Amendment 2 to the Shark Management Plan." This is the plan that regulates all commercial and recreational shark fishing in federal waters. In this case the area of control includes the "EEZ" with runs from three to 200 miles from shore. A lot of us have been longing to know what the new regulations will be, but in a recent conversation I had with Margo Schulze-Haugen (director NMFS, Sustainable Fisheries HMS) it looks as though the finalized plan will not likely be out until April and the new regulations won't go into effect until sometime around mid-summer.
